The 2005 Century Memorial Ride was set for Saturday August 8. The starting point was Glendale Harley and ended at the Blue café in Long Beach. As we were riding south bound on the 110 fwy merging onto the Vincent Tomas bridge, heading into Long Beach, a motorist driving erratically drove straight into our conga line of motorcycle riders, sideswiping Century Station Sergeant Mike Arriaga. The committee still had an event to host and could not be by the side of one of their brothers during this time. It was nerve racking not knowing what condition Sergeant Arriaga was in. We later found out he suffered pavement burns to his face and a broken arm which he eventually recovered from. Even after this unfortunate incident the event was a success. The participants enjoyed the accommodations provided by the Century Memorial Ride Committee and the Blue Café. The music played by “Steel Rod” was the crowds favorite, they were requested for future events. The events primary success is owed to the leadership of then Captain James Lopez. He was promoted to commander before the day of the ride and was unable to attend this years event.
